Named Accountable GP for all Patients
The 2015-2016 GP contract in England extends the requirement to provide a named accountable GP to all patients, rather than just those over the age of 75. The contract remains "practice based", so the overall responsibility for patient care has not altered. The role of a named accountable GP is to take responsibilty for the co-ordination for all appropriate services and ensure they are delivered where required (based on clinical judgement) to each of their patients.
Having a "named GP" means that he or she will:
- help to ensure that we recognise and respond to any physical or psychological needs,
- ensure that you have assess to a health check, if and when requested/required,
- take the lead on offering any appropriate services for your needs,
- work with relevant associated health and social care professionals when necessary during your treatment.
Having a "named GP" does not mean he or she will:
- be avaliable 24 hours a day,
- that is the only doctor or clinician whom the practice will provide your care with or you can ask to speak with,
- that you will have personal access to the doctor through the working week.
You do not have to see your named GP if you do not wish. However dependant on the line of treatment required, you may need to see a duty nurse, practice nurse etc or another GP if your GP if not avaliable for a more urgent matter.
Highbridge Medical Centre already operate personal lists for GP's and all patients have their own named GP. We will be informing patients on a ad-hoc basic of their named GP. However, if you would like to know you named GP sooner please contact reception who will be more than happy to help.
